Having clean records makes a big difference in the sound quality. There are a few things we recommend. Buy an anti-static carbon fiber cleaning brush. Use this ideally each time you play a record or when needed to remove surface dust. If a record is new or in great shape then this may be all you need to do.
But for the more “pre-loved” records we recommend a wet cleaning. Buy some record cleaning solution (we sell Vinyl Style brand in the store) or make your own. You can google on recipes but a common one is:
6 parts distilled water
1 part isopropyl alcohol 91% (get at your local drug store)
1 drop of clear dishwashing liquid
Dab a small amount on a microfiber cloth and wipe in the direction of the grooves.
If you have a bigger collection or want to get records even cleaner we highly recommend the record washer from Spin-Clean. It’s around $80 online but works great.
